Varrus is now a horrifying fusion of man and machine. His body is gone, but his preserved brain is housed in a large, armored glass cylinder, suspended in a bubbling, pale blue fluid. This cylinder rests atop a set of rusty, articulated Clank leg units for movement and is flanked by powerful, grasping Clank manipulation arms cobbled together from various dismantled prisoners. He is sustained by the residual life-force and disassembled parts of the Clanks he was meant to guard.

Background

Varrus was a sadistic, low-ranking officer who "reassigned" to the Citadel for his excessive cruelty and disturbing behavior. When was built, Varrus was given the job as a kind of exile, knowing he'd be perfect for the required "security" methods. As the years went on and the magic sustaining the Citadel began to fail, Varrus started cannibalizing the stored, disassembled Clanks to create a perverse, life-sustaining mechanism for himself.

Motive

He doesn't want the "Mycenaean Cog" for power; he wants it for the incredible surge of pure, crystallized energy it contains. He believes using it will grant him true machine immortality, freeing him from the slow decay of his current mechanical husk.
